I usually don't have these kind of problems but... My 18hp Vanguard seems to load up coasting down a hill and when you give it some throttle soon after, BANG! It is now tgo the point that it is driving me a little nuts. Valves are properly adjusted, carb is brand new, Everything else seems to check out okay. Does anyone else ever have this problem? or a possible fix?

My first thought was a carb problem. You said it was new, was it newly rebuilt or new out of the box? It sounds like a stuck float to me.

Still Backfiring
I backed the airscrew out to the point that it does not fall flat on its face. But now it runs too rich. And still has the problem of loading up and backfiring. It seems to me like the clutch doesn't fully disengage when I let off the throttle. so it ends up spinning the motor while the butterfly is closed. it still sucks fuel and when I give it some juice it gets enough air and then it backfires.
