Has anyone explored the prospect of swaping in an engine from a quad into an aatv?

Quad engines?

Maybe a two-stroke from a mid-90's Polaris 4-wheeler, otherwise probably not practical with the integral manual shift transmission in a typical ATV engine. Although I did see a picture of a 4 cylinder Ford engine stuffed in a Max, so I suppose anything is possible....................-Dave

The more I think about it..........if the intent was to eliminate the stock transmission, then how would you turn? By adding a brake system somehow, I guess?
I suppose I am thinking from an Attex perspective, which I would never even think of putting in a quad or motorcycle engine. I can't even think of one advantage. However, other AATV's use several different types of drive and steering systems which may make things a bit easier, and worth the effort. Maybe.
Littlebow01, what type of machine do you have? What type of quad engine?
Imagine trying to clutch, shift, throttle, and steer at the same time with two sticks? Whew, thats a handful!-Dave

Oh I am working a deal to get an early 80`s argo 8x8 with no engine, but the guy bougth all new bearings, seals etc.. tires too i think. He tore it down to rebuild it and has changed jobs and has no time to finish or use the argo, so in a couple of weeks I will go and pick it up for $500. I`ll have to put it together and put a motor in it.

I know that some of the utv's use a cvt clutch like we do on amphibs. Two that come to mind are the Kawasaki Mule and the Yahaha Rhino. Not sure what the cost of one of these engines would be.If they are more expensive than the "lawnmower" engines we use now,the added cost and work to mount them would render the point moot. But If a guy had one laying around,it might be fun to play with just to see if it would work.If I had one and it could be done without MAJOR alteration to the mounts I know I would try.But it would probably be best to try the Mule - Rhino type powerplant for simplicity. So there's my nickel's worth.DESTRUCTION is just a couple of vowels down the street from DISTRACTION
