Wrap the red one around the plug wire (Around 3-4 wraps with about 1/16 gap in the spiral heading toward the plug boot), run the white one to a good ground.
Make sure you order the tach for a 2-stroke engine, not a four stroke. Most small engines including our Briggs and Kohlers will spark on every revolution. If you use a four stroke tach, you'll be reading double RPMs.
