  • help ,carb adjustment on 18 hp kohler magnum

the so called mechanic that rebuilt my carb and installed must have scr2wed that settings, the idel is way too fast and wont come down there is a horizontal screw and a vertical screw adjustment anyone know which does what and the corect settings,if i turn all the way in it says in the book 2-1\4 turns out for fast idel which is that screw, also on the weekend the throtle cable came undone from carb and which hole does the spring go into, the macine idels way to fast and does not let me change from reverse or forward or even in nuetral unless i turn of the macine, any help would be apreciated,by the way other than that the machine ran like a champ, lots of power, might have to air down the tires a bit but i guess i was just going too fast on the snow and ice,we had between 6-12 inches of slush and snow on the ice and i just powered through all of it ,cant wait to try it with the super tracks, cheers

just rebuilt mine too, argo magnum not been used for at least a few years bought with carb removed as non runner.
stripped and found main jet (top one on body) bent? at end(3 inch long needle),straightened valve out .
idle mixture screw is the one at side nearest manifold 45deg.
idle screw 90 deg at top .
try winding out idle screw to lower speed.
mine runs best with both idle and fast main jet set at 2 1/2, 2 3/4 turns out from wound fully in position.
throttle cable goes on r/h lever on carb if standing buy r/h front wheel 2 or 3rd hole from top then spring connected from that lever to govener arm on engine.

if the idle is too fast it will not change gear,
should make a put, put sound at idle like a dumper truck.

Make sure the governor rod is allowing the throttle tang to rest against the idle adjustment screw.
