Is there an alturator on a argo or do you have to charge the batt from know and then

it should have a charging system. not always an alternator, but some method of charging the battery. a lot of older engines weren't very good as far as charging goes, so it isn't a bad idea to throw a charger on it from time to time... especially if you go for a lot of short rides (don't give it time to charge between starts)

ok thanks because it has started with out any problem before but to day it started then when we were out it stalled and had to walk back and get the truck to start it again.PLayed with it for about two hours then put it away.Shut it off then tryed to start it rite away and no go.It is now charging up as we speak.Is there any thing I could do to see if it is charging when it running

Battery charge

You can check the charge rate with a multi-meter on the battery when it is running. The battery voltage should be around 13-14 volts at full throttle. Charge the battery then test it in the machine with the engine running. What engine do you have?

Ok. If the battery is reasonably charged, start it up and measure the battery voltage while it is running. Hold the revs up. The voltage should be climbing, if it stops at aroung 12-12.5 then it is not charging properly. The older briggs engines had a trickle charge sytem that didn't charge much unless the engine was revving, I'm not real sure about the new ones but I'd say they have improved them.

Ok thnak you I have a 1990 argo with a briggs is there any way of a fix to get a better charge or do I have to live with it

If it is charging properly it should be more than enough to keep the battery up, unless you are doing a lot of frequent stopping and starting of the engine.

wiring

hey all. i need a lil wiring help (or a lot lol ) i have a mid to late 70`s argo with a k440 ams motor i just bought about a week ago and the wiring was cut up bad so i have to rewire the whole thing. my question is, is there suppost to be a connector plug between the motor and starter switch or should that just be 1 solid run?

if you can not get any more than 12 to 12.5 volts out of your charging system, you will have to probably replace your stator(which is located behind the flywheel) when running at 3/4 to full throttle i do believe that you are only getting 10- 15 amps to charge and run all electrical loads with.

If your battery is not charging at all, it could be the rectifier. I had to replace one on the Kohler Magnum in my Argo.

another question

my rectifer has 4 wires on 2 yellow 1 red 1 black and my motor has 7 wires 1 yellow 1 yellow strip 1 green 1 green strip 2 black and 1 brown. is that rite
? the wires from the stock 1 have been cut for some time and some 1 put in an after market but dident use the 2 green wires. the after market 1 has 5 wires but they only used 4
