the points are located under the flywheel. you'll have to pull the recoil starter and the pulley for the fan belt. once you get that done, just stand on your head and use a small file or the wifes emery board to clean the points. (rotate the flywheel untill you can get to the points through the access hole in the flywheel). if that doesn't get it going you'll probably have to remove the flywheel and change points/ condenser.
did you get the machine to roll?

listen to amphiman1, its easier to check the coils. make sure you have a good ground. there should be a separate ground wire for each coil with a ring terminal around the screw which secures the coil. swap the coils for one another and see if the opposite plug will fire. make sure you have good plugs first.

thanks for everyone's reply!! first.. it does roll..guess the owner had it in gear. and I started tearing into it. got the pullstart off, and half the pulley, but having a time getting the back half of the pulley to break loose. and I was going to try switching the coils, but stopped because I thought the wire and the coil were one piece. does the wire pull out??
I got the gas tank out and other stuff today. chains look good. brakes work , this max hasnt had much use at all. I think I did pretty good
