  • oil temp or pressure sending unit

hey all. i just bought a 91 8x8 magnum and it was burning oil bad off the motor.found the oil was coming from a sending unit underneith the 1 exhast pipe. my question is, is the sending unit suppost to be a temp unit or a pressure unit. the magnum has a oil temp gauge in it but not sure if its the rite 1.

    i have 1 magnum 8x8 with the 18hp kohler.
mine has a oil temp guage.and a red oil pressure light in centre of dash
i know the oil pressure light switch is the one in the front of engine as i is below the oil filter as i had a broken wire in mine and had to trace wiring down to it find fault.
temp guage in mines dead too as when i short the temp sender wire to earth the oil temp guage pegs off to hot.i need a sender too.
the two sender wires run down front of engine, short one to clean bare metal earth and the oil light should come on ,and the other will make temp guage read full hot.

Hi Rod, I have a 1990 magnum 18 kohler. Mine has the same as Marks. Have you run the engine long enough to get it to move the needle because mine takes a while to get heated up.Good luck with the leak.

thanx guys for the info. it was the low oil pressure switch, but some 1 removed the red warning light on the dash. so i have to put a new light on the dash as soon as i find where they hid the wire for it lol
