    Not So Simple, I Think.

Hi Eightwheeler, that is the same engine as in my mowers. The problem with tilting it over is that the sump wouldn't be on the bottom anymore and even a different pick up would have no place to pull the oil from. I will go to the shop this afternoon and see if there might be a way to change the sump/pick up location. Will get back to you as soon as possible.

Before I would lay it over I would use a right angle gear box

Laying a motor on it side can bring on a host of problems.
I would suggest using a "right angle gearbox" below the engine to provide a side drive. check ebay for key words "Hub City", "Boston Gear", "right angle gear box" or "90 degree gear box"
I would suggest a 1:1 gear ratio, same dia. shaft as the engine.
Don't get me wrong this idea has problems as well. Cranking it for starting will be a *@#$% because you will have quite alot to spin! It will cost $100+. You will need a big one considering the torque! You will have to mount the motor up high to fit all of this junk under it.
      Maybe just switch to Hydraulics?

        No Can Do.

Hey Eightwheeler, sorry 'bout the delay in my reply. I looked at my engine and checked with my local JD dealer as well. Simply put there just isn't any easy way to lay this engine over. Yanmar no longer makes it and it never was available as a horizontal shaft model. The model # is 2V78 which was replaced by the 2V750 V or H depending on shaft orientation. The new engine has very little in common with no interchangeable parts and was also discontinued. So unless you wanted to do some major machine work..... Too bad though as it retailed for more than 20 times the asking price. How do you manage to find these great deals all the time?
