On my Vanguard 2 I had a problem where the intake pipe in the gas tank
got clogged. Right at the end of the pipe at the bottom of the tank.
It had the same problems as you are having (loss of power, like it's not.
    getting gas)

      solution to the problem

I think I fixed the problem!!!! I changed all the fuel lines and put real screw type clamps on. the fuel line was old and was breaking down and sucking shut on the inside. I changed all the line and ran it yesterday and its running good so far. thanks for every one that gave me ideas!

I was having carb trouble but we cleaned that out and put a new fuel filter and a new fuel pump because it seemed to run out of fuel because when this started to loose power we pulled the choke and it ran enough to get home. this just started a few days ago before hand it was running good. where should I start looking for the problem? any help would be great!!

I am having the same problem- started at first only when i was going up a steep hill. Then sometimes the power just cuts out like its fuel starved. Changed the filter and aadded new gas to 1/2 a tank of old. I cleaned the carb, the floats where clean, as was everything else. I plan on pulling the fuel tank tommarrow and looking inside for debris- if that doesnt work i guess I will look at the fuel lines. When I pulled the top end of the carb off it looked like the pin was not attached the the plastic float, but sitting under it. I attached it back into the plastic slot when i reinstalled the flaot but did not notice a difference. Its really wierd, if its hot itdoesnt like to start- when its starved I can pull the choke and limp/jerk it home. Any other ideas? Have you had anymore problems since you changed out the line? was it fuel or vaccum in the end?

The pump on the vanguards is not serviceable with a kit. If water got in the pump it will be on the atmoshere side of the diaphram and limit pump volume. Take the top off of the carb and see how much fuel is there....it should be 1/2 to 3/4 full with the top removed......if not it's a supply issue or a venting issue on the tank. Fill the tank full and remove the fuel line and watch it drain into a container for a couple of minutes...........should be a full steady stream...if not loosen the cap and see if flow increases......if so replace the cap.
