  • unknown engine wiring help

got this old argo 8x8 with a single cylinder engine tecumech oh160 (4stroke?)but no wires connected to it.can any body tell me where to find a wiring diagram
what do the 2 wires do?
how do you turn it off?
do the wires power ignition or do you flood engine wth choke to stop it running?
or are they charging wires from regulator
photo in engines gallery dont know haw to put link to photos sorry

    just guessing....

I think one is the positive voltage to the battery for charging. The other is a ground for killing the spark and shutting off the motor.

This is just a guess. I have no idea which is which.

trace the wires back to their origin

trace the wires to see where they go. If it has an oil sump its a 4 stroke

        theres no usable loom ,
and both the wires go to a sealed metal box.looks like regulator
dont want to try and start it untill i know what the wires to as if they are the charging system and runs disconected it may damage it.

Need more info to determine what engine it is. How old is the machine? On the top of the shroud covering the flywheel there may be some numbers and letters. By the look of the hood it may have a techumseh engine. If so the numbers may be OH160 or OH180. If that is the engine, be very carefull when trying to wire the engine. That is a battery ignition system and if wired wrong you can do major damage to the electronic box. The switch has to be the proper one.If the original switch is there I may be able to help.

            many thanks for reply .
now know its a tecumech OH16 (dumb question but is that 16hp)
            engine number oh160170078a 7299e
hull number tb325vce85 (does this make it a TB MODEL)
            trans number 6795g
            realy need a wiring diagram
I have 3 wires comming out of the flywheel area going to a white 3 pin flat plug.
            yellow/green/yellow.
the 2 yellow wires go to what looks like a regulator
the green comes out of same plug then to nothing.sitting in mid air
then i have a red wire coming out of the suspected regulator and again loose and not conected to anything .

my thoughts are the yellow wires are the charging curcuit to regulator,
the green possibly being the gound switch to stop motor.
red = postitive output from charging regulator to charge battery

but dont want to connect to these 2 wires or crank engine over encase it damages anything electrical.
dont have the original switch but can replicate its functions if i know the wire postions and functions.
but there was no loom in argo.just these 2 unknown wires on engine
