have a vanguard 16 hp vtwin that will start right up but keeps stalling on me at standing still..if i choke it it dies faster. where is the idle control screw and could this be the problem ? thanx

if it runs ok above idle speed on throttle then sounds like a blockage in the idle curcuit in the carb.
would leave the idle settings alone intill you carb has been stripped and cleaned.
by pulling the choke out sounds like its making the engine flood and stall

idle location
the idel screw is located if you are standing in front of the machine its on the left side close to the top of the carb towards the rear. left side top rear. if the carb is clean check your vacum at the fuel pump. just cranking motor over not running it should be about 1 pound of suction.

my engine was stalling the first time i got it just like you describe i switched to premium gas with some carb/injector cleaner from gum out and now it runs like a champ i can let it idle all day long without even a hiccup so before you go tearing anything apart try that1996 MAX IV ,KUBOTA DIESEL
