Noob engine swap question

I pick up an old Attex ST300D tonite and it needs a motor. Found this on craigslist will it work?

John Deere 440 twin cylinder 2 stroke. Runs great. Seat and plastics are a little ratty. The only mechanical problem is the clutch that drvies the belt needs replaced. This would also be one hell of a go kart motor. You can hear it run.

Looks like about a '75 with a CCW engine Canadian Curtis Wright 338cc

With a welder, some scrap metal, grinder and know how, it will work. Should make that little 1st generation attex scream too.

Wait till I post the pics of the frame, not sure if I can salvage it or just use it for dimensions to build a new one. I think I even have some comet clutch parts I got when I did some trading for the dirt latemodel.

Now what all should I save from the sled to use on the Attex before I scrap the rest?

Just a suggestion, but I would use the original one cylinder JLO 297cc engine, which is rated around 20HP I believe. The John Deere 440 (CCW Kioritz) is an excellent motor, so put it on a shelf and be sure to save it. With the JLO 297, you could use the original factory mount (or find one out there somewhere pretty easily) and you wouldn't have to spend all of that extra time trying to fit it, make a mount, rig an exhaust, redo the wiring, etc. Plus a 440 is too much motor for a first generation Attex in my opinion. I put a 440 JLO/Rockwell in my first generation Attex racer and it was extremely fast (because of the high horsepower and lightweight), and unstable because of the high speed, narrow width and short wheelbase. Even with a single bucket seat mounted on low, right on the frame the machine still rolled 3 times in one race at Ashtabula, Ohio.

I would keep the wiring harness. Key switch, light switchs and such you could probably use. I would also keep the exhaust so you could possibly hack it up and make is usable for your application. The belt maybe but probably not the right length and size unless your really lucky. Thats about all I can think of off hand.

I was thinking........The skis could be usefull for a trailer for ice fishing!

i purchased1 but it is still sitting on the shed floor awaiting the scrambler restoration i ran it on the floor seems powerfull.I think larryw has one in his attex i put post on here about the same engine had positive feedback so i purchased it GOOD LUCK

I have the 16hp powermax and great results. My brother has some weirdo red 13hp clone with good results, too. Good cheap power plant. Mine always starts right up no matter the temp.
