  • Engine question

Hi all. Didnt want to hijack Max headrooms thread. Here is the engine question. Do the high HP Vanguards (30 - 35 hp) or similar Kohlers generate enough rpms to get good speed. I know George loved the Bandolero because it revs to like 6 grand. Do these motors perform similarly or do they just build ridiculous torque with no go. Thanks

Most of the stock engines need parts upgrades to turn higher rpm and stay together. They're built to run at governed rpm's. A 30 or 35 hp engine will make that power at 3600, while a smaller built engine will have to turn more rpm to make 30 or 35. You could gear a stock engine to run as fast as a built one. An advantage of a built engine is a wider operating rpm.

I built my engine for around $600 in parts and now it will run my max4 right along with the 2 strokes. I don't know the horse power because I used parts I selected myself and not a standard "40hp package". Even with tracks it still moves. If anybody is interested in doing this I would be happy to help with my experiance.

should have mentioned that $600 did not include the engine. I started with a briggs 23hp.

Welcome Tim Schotanus! Havn't heard from you in a long time. Tim's a man of few words, and built a performance briggs a long time ago, before any of us other guys.
