Kohler 17 twin rebuild?

I have just purchased an 8x8 Argo serial # KB 5618, year 1988??. Hydraulic brakes, Motor is puffing smoke a bit when going from high revs back to idle. Anyone ever rebuild a Kohler 17 twin and if so are parts still available for such an engine. If not what are my choices for engine upgrade without re-constructing the front of the machine. Any help or manuals would be greatly appreciated. I live in eastern Ontario.

You may also want to keep an eye out for rebuild kits on eBay.

Now, quick question, is that a Series II engine? If so, that's a sweet engine you should hold on to. If it's a Series I, it's still a good engine, but keep your oil changed often and keep the engine VERY clean, as this engine has only splash cooling where it really should be drilled and sprayed.
