I have an 18hp twin Onan in my little front loader tractor, mid 70's model and still running strong.I do not own any others but my first encounter with an onan was at the hospital i used to work at and the backup generator was an onan ,rv generators are also often onan.I have been happy with mine but ya never know.

They were a good motor, Long life if taken care of ! They cost more than Briggs and Kohlers when new, so sales were lower for them! And today parts are higher and harder to get for them!

I'll second that. They used an awful lot of them for industrial applications and they're a no-nonsense long-use engine. I've got a 25 hp opposed twin in the Swamp Fox and it's still got great compression after years of neglect and abuse. Parts are getting harder to find for them, though.
Stuck in the seventies- not in the swamp.

          (6) Attex, a Hustler, a Super Swamp Fox, (2) Tricarts, (3) Tri-sports, a Sno-co trike, 3 Dunecycles, and a Starcraft! ...so far
