bought this scrambler with no engine and was wondering what i can put in it. any help would be great. ps if you would know what year it is would be cool.
Like amphiman said a 8 horse or bigger is a nice engine. I have a 7 horse in my gotcha and it moves it around fine, my brother has a scrambler and he's putting a tecumseh 10 horse engine in it. He also has a (lil truck attex) that he made and its powered by a tecumseh 8 horse which has surprising power and decent speed. You can put some bigger things in it but i like the small gas sippers Cool scrambler by the way, i run the same kind of tires looks like you need them turned around to swim.

i have 2 sets of those tires too..... great for ripping up the lawn. LOL
I agree with other guys. 8hp+ I would stick with a single or v twin, The oppose twins will work if you raise the motor up enough but it is really close to not fitting and I was worried with heat. I had a 18hp oppose briggs for mine but I sold it. Head to Head is to long. I have heard of a guy who did do it though.
Another thing is if its to wide, pto shaft to recoil, you will have to move the driven clutch over on the shaft and that can be a pain sometimes. Then the steering slave cylinders are in the way and theres ways around that too but.....I got a 10hp tecumseh that will work but my 16hp powermax wouldnt unless I move the driven clutch over. The 16hp tecumseh models also had the clutch moved over. 12hp tecumseh didnt. So to make it easy, try to stay under 12hp. I can double check and see if the 13hp honda clone is wider then the 16hp honda clone if you want. Not sure what your looking at.
Sum things up because my story got long, lol.
8-12hp works fine, 12hp+ single or v twins will work but more modifications may be needed. Oppose twins stay away from.
2 stoke wise probably any single and most doubles with the driven clutch moved over.
you guys are full of all kinds of great info. i guess i will stay under 12hp so i don't have to move anything around. is the comet clutch the best one to go with or do you guys recommend others thanks again

With the 12hp thing I am assuming your drive is set up for a 10/12hp. A picture would confirm it or if your driven clutch is around middle in the shaft. If its off set a lot or if the steering cylinders arent the same on both sides then you may have a 1600 which I doubt. It came stock with a 16hp. Then everything is already set up for a wider engine.
I have always used comet 40 which work great until recently I go some salisbury clutches which are larger diameter and there is a huge different in top end speed. There is a smaller salisbury clutch which I also have too though which is probably the same diameter as the comet 40. Roughly I think the comet 40 is 4.5" and I believe the salsbury is 7 1/4". Something like that anyways.
