Does this engine look worth it?

There's really a lack of information on the engine. If it's local and you can go see it yourself and hear it run (for more than 5 minutes or so), you might get a better opinion of it. What's the shaft size? Is it tapered for a generator, or does it have a 1" or 1 1/8" keyed shaft? It's missing the radiator, fan voltage regulator and the air filter (just the filter element, or the entire housing?) , which is a big check in the negative column in my opinion. Plan on investing a bit of money to replace these parts the right way. What is it out of? Is it out of a commercial mower engine that saw a lot of higher RPM hours How many hours on it in the first place?
There are a lot of questions to be asked, but it still might be a good deal in the long run. Only you can answer the question "is it worth it to me?".
I don't have any experience with the Kaw liquids, so I can't speak to their specific value. These are just general questions to be asked, I suppose.

That would be a great engine in your Max IV if everything works on it and would be suitable for your application like the, shaft size, width, room for a radiator, etc."Looks like you have a problem with your 4 wheeler........you're missin' two wheels there"

I wonder what minumum size of radiator it needs. They make oil coolers that are pretty long off semi trucks, that are also narrow that might fit in the long and narrow slot on the enging cover. Also have a bunch of 12v server fans that could be lined up on it.

That is a 1 1/8" keyed shaft engine. If you scroll towards the bottom of this page you can download a PDF with all the specifications including dimensions: 23 hp Kawasaki OHV Twin - 1-1/8" shaft, 20 amp coil FD671D S00 : Farmers Exchange
As for torque on the Briggs version, the 23hp engine of theirs puts out right at 40 ft lbs but keep in mind you can get a brand new 23 hp briggs from Northern for $1400 - Briggs & Stratton Vanguard V-Twin Horizontal Engine — 23 HP, 1in. x 2 29/32in. Shaft, Model# 386447-0079-E1 | 20 HP + above | Northern Tool + Equipment
A used one is obviously much less. Plus, once you factor in radiator, air cleaner, other misc. stuff for this engine you may have more in it than you think. Not trying to discourage you from buying it but just browse around a little and you might be able to find something else cheaper and complete that you can hear/see run. Of course this motor may be a great one with few hours on it too...who knows.
Good luck and let us know what you do.

I am now very sure that this WILL FIT in your application. Recreatives Industries puts 27 and 29HP liquid cooled Kawasakis in the Max IV's from the factory. Sooooo you should have no trouble fitting it. They make clutches for a 1 1/8" shaft so that wont be a problem either. I would say that this might be a green light. Now just talk the guy down on the price."Looks like you have a problem with your 4 wheeler........you're missin' two wheels there"

He doesn't seem to be coming down any on the price. I'ts been on there a while though, I'll just wait. If ya'll see a used briggs and stratton at a good price, let me know though! I'm going to try and find photos of radiator setups ont he max, I like the idea of it still running well in high heat environments such as texas and new mexico and things.
The briggs is what i was looking for originally but I can't seem to ever find them.
