  • Fried Regulator?

Well....... I pulled a real boner today. Got a new (big) battery, 600 CCA automotive type with side posts. I mounted it up nice where the old little one was. Somehow, during the process of installing it and thinking, good, the cables will reach just fine. I put the battery in oriented 90 degrees from the old one because it was to wide to fit the standard area. I got the cables on backwards. This just proves how human I really am. How stupid. I was so excited to try this new battery because I had some trouble last winter and this is a Bandolero engine with high compression and no compression release on the exh valve. I am quite sure the regulator is fried because a heavy wire coming out of it was melting.

What else do you think I cooked?

Reverse polarity.........bad news,,,,alternator/regulator.It can be fixed and you are not the first nor will you be the last who has done this.Don't be too hard on yourself as the only man who never made a mistake never did anything.
