start with unhooking the line from the fuel pump. put a LITTLE compressed air in the tank and make sure fuel is running out the line. next, hook that one up and remove the line from the carb. crank the engine for a few seconds and see if fuel is running out the line. if not you have a pump issue. could be the pump, the pulse line from the engine may be cracked/ rotted, or the crank seals in the engine may be shot. if you are getting fuel when you crank the engine, then your carb is the issue. gummed up or a stuck float. this sounds simple, but most of the old 2 strokes had a shut off valve in the fuel line. make sure that is open. also check to see that your gas cap is venting. run through these checks and if your still not up and running, let us know the results so we can work from there. i'm assuming that your running a mikuni carb. if it's a tiltson, the fuel pump might be built into the carb. if you could post some pics of your setup it would help.

if your exhaust is plugged up that might not be letting it pull fuel in. try spraying a little starting fluid in the carb and see if it will fire. if it runs a little on starting fluid and smokes from the exhaust exit then it should be clear enough for the engine to be able to pull air/ fuel

            2 stroke life test

Starting fluid can be trouble on 2 strokes. I would use pre mix in the spark plug hole ~ 1/4 teaspoon and try to start it. After a few start cycles, you will know if the exhaust is open. Then do a start cycle and hold your hand over the carb inlet and see if it pulls strong vacuum. Good luck!

Adding to what racerone3 said. If the crank seals are bad the air/fuel mix can still git into the base of the engine, but not build up enough pressuse under the piston to push the air/fuel mixture though the transfer ports into the combustion chamber. This would explane why you have fuel at the carb but not at the spark plug.

              Hope this helps

If you only have 60psi compression that is your problem. It should have at least 100psi to run properly. The only way I know of to test the crank seals is to take them out and see if they have gone hard or If the machine was running you could start it and spray starting fluid behind the clutch and if the engine revves up the seal is bad.

I never worked on anything but an argo so im not sure if the 500 will take much modification to install, but somone on this great site will be able too help you. I do know that if you have a t 20 transmission it will handle the power just fine.
