Ity sure is a great feeling to do it yourself. I have rebuilt 3 bikes and now I am tearing apart my early 70's 6x6 argo for a complete rebuild. I have some wild ideas to make it my own. It sure does feel good to say "Ya I rebuilt it and ya it runs!!"

You'll have a blast and learn a lot.

Started the engine swamp and ran into a few problems. The way the swamp fox seat comes down currently will hit the engine if I leave the engine is the same spot as the old OH160, Therefore need to move the engine back then I need to get a new belt which is okay as long as I get the right size. Also found out the throttle on the OH160 was only opening about 1/2 therefore with the new engine and the throttle working right I sound see some improvment. Looking forward to taking it for a ride but it may be a few days yet.

There will always be something that comes up but as long as you tackle it one step at a time you will get there. Sounds like you are well on your way. By the way, what engine did you end up with?

If you run into any probems, about a 4hr drive away, I willl help with the swap and my time, labor is free. I have done numerous swaps and I probably have the extra metal laying around here anyways. Feel free to bring it over if needed! I would love to help!

I called and talked to 600 racing a few times and was leaning toward getting the 30 horse but the lack of a rev limiter concerned me a little. I have 2 young boys and I was concerned with when they start to drive the Fox if they would be able to keep the RPM's in check so I went with the 23 horse. May save myself some headaches in the long run. Thanks for your help with everything this is a great site. Happy Holidays

Does anyone know a part number for a 1 1/4 X 50"belt? I am going to need approx a 50" belt. The folding seat is really causing me some problems.

                  hi
I personally own a swamp fox and currently rebuilding including rectifying all the misguided repairs
The machine has been converted to vanguard v twin and suffers the same issue . The front valve cover hits the seat but the previous owner was not real good , he cut the seat out agh agh ...........

After measuring i can confirm that a 48 --52 belt is required

                  To acheive best result
1/ push transmission all the way forward on its adjustment [remove chain ]
                  2/ lower seat
3/ push engine all the way up to seat allowing some clearance
4/ measure centre to centre distance of shafts
5/ photograph primary and secondary clutch
6/ send information to Quality Drive Systems ask for micheal
7 / information u require from QDS will be
clutch to clutch alignment [pulleys do not always run inline ]1/4 to 3/8 offset
belt length and belt width ,yes they sell belts

google qds ph number they also are agents for salsbury and cvtech

                    4000 RPM

thank you for your response. The engine is in and runs great but it was a little slow. I received some great help from the site and was told to get a green spring for a AATV from Max which I did and installed. Recreation Ind. set to put a tach on it and keep it 4000rpm's or below, which it is when there is a load on the engine but if I free throttle it will go over 4000RPM's. I think this should be okay. Any thoughts?

I would think that a red spring would have been a better choice for your Swamp Fox. I switched from the stock green spring that came stock on my Max IV to a red spring ,and I,m very happy with the results.

Are you talking about the T20 or the governor? I am talking about the governor.

I was referring to the T-20 clutch. Thats where I made the swap. The main reason that I changed from the green spring to the red spring on the T-20, was for more low end grunt because I,m running very agressive atv mud tires. This is what works for me in the conditions that I like to take my Max IV.

Thank you, I am planning on that as my next upgrade. How long does it take to change out the spring?

                              broncofiresmith,

Changing out the spring on the T-20 clutch will take you about an hour or less if you have the T-20 already removed. A set of Swamp Fox plus, atv tires would work very well on a machine like yours. These atv tires swim about 3 mph in the water ,and provide outstanding traction and durability.

Do you know how far over 4000 it will go or have you let off when it does..
