JLO 297 pull start

The battery was dead in my Attex so I thought "Why not use the pull start". Well that was a mistake. I pulled the pull start handle one time and it turned the motor over but now it will not retract. The cable appears to be in good shape and looks stock. Does anyone have a diagram or idea what I should expect before i take it apart. Is it easier to fix or replace it? As always thanks in advance for any help or guidance.

I'm guessing it is dry, needs greasing/oiling., it might be ok yet,,,,
