  • JLO Rockwell 252cc (Flooding problem)

I am kind of learning these two-strokes as I go. I just bought a Terra Tiger with a running JLO 252cc and it floods quite easily. Well, exceptionally easy! I can only get it to fire if I pull the spark plug and blow it dry with air or dry it off some other way. Then, it will idle a little until I give it some gas. The throttle is very finnicky and if I don't feather it just right, the engine stalls and I then need to pull the plug, dry it off and start over.

Any tips will be greatly appreciated. I bought my first 6-wheeler nearly a year ago and have yet to drive one more than 20 feet. What is the plug gap supposed to be set at?

    Thanks in advance,
    Erik

I believe it to be the original (Tilotson maybe?). It is stamped HL 262 A.

You really need a compression test to give you an indication of how tired engine is, Even with decent compression it will run a short time and then blow back from carb and die if it has blow by from worn piston and rings. However a carb rebuild can work wonders if done correctly. Number the individual plates from top to bottom to keep them in order, The numbers will keep you from mistakes on reassembly- all lined up and right side up. Make a sketch if you want as well. You should realize that your dealing with a 30 yr. old engine and may be wise to convert to newer 4 cycle engine. plug gap .020

Most carb kits come with a diagram or exploded view. I think your float is set to allow to much gas in . However you may find tard hands been in there before you and put it back together wrong. Good Luck Mike

Put a new spark plug in her and she ran like a champ! Not sure of the mechanics behind it, but 20 minutes ago, I drove my 6-wheeler for the first time. It was great, but I learned real quick.....don't stop in a snow bank....just keep it moving at all times. Second, I learned that with 5 and 6 year old boys, I probably should have found a machine with reverse! I think I have a lot of years of getting these things "unstuck" ahead of me. A winch is gonna be a necessity me thinks!

But all in all, it was an exhiliarating experience. Woohoo!!
