  • Tillotson -vs- Wallbro

What are the pro's and cons of these two makes of carbs? They are destined for JLO's (either 252, 295 or 340 single cylinders) which will power my boys Terra Tigers. Two of the JLO's have Tillotson's and two have Wallbro's. Are there any significant differences in performance, longevity, etc?

Also, a couple of the Terra Tigers I bought had 299cc Rotax engines in them. I pulled the carbs off of them and I'll be darned if they don't look exactly the same as the Tillotson's that came on the JLO's. Are carbs interchangable on these two cycles? I guess it shows you how much I know about 2 cycles.....I am a tractor guy by nature, and I know that you can't interchange carbs on Kohlers vs Briggs vs Tecumseh, etc. But are they interchangable on 2 cycles?

    Hi:
As long as you have the proper mounting flange, and the carburetor is the proper bore for the motor, (Don't put a 42mm carb on a 295, you may not be happy ) then they are interchangeable, at least on the older motors. ( Newer 2-stokes are sometimes very specifically designed and picky, and now many are Fuel injected and sleds are going four stroke ) Even if a carb is tuned perfectly on one engine, you should expect to make at least a few tweaks, even if it's going on another engine of the same size and manufacturer.

As for Tilly VS Wallboro, I have not used a Wallboro on any powersports engine, but they work fine on all my 2-stroke lawn equipment

I haven't had any experince with the tilly, but I know Wallbros are pretty stout and are usually very reliable. they are easy to rebuild and you can generaly find parts and kits at most small engine repair shops because they are a large brand name. Like "6x6" says make sure its properly sized. Too small and the engine will act like it always starving. A little larger is ok because you can always down size the jets. The engine will draw the amount of air it needs on its own. Hope this helps!
