  • JLO charging output.

I tried searching but didn't find anything as to how much a JLO 440 charging system puts out. Does anyone know? My engine does charge but I wasn't sure on the how many watts/amps it actually puts out. I am switching all the lights over to LED but my main concern is I plan on putting a winch on it and I want to make sure I will be able to charge the battery back up. thanks.

    Hi:
The service manual I have states a light load of 60watts Max. At 12 Volts this is 5 amps. To keep up with a winch continuously you would need a large auto alternator, but the battery will provide the needed current, and the alternator will charge it back up. It will just depend on how much you use the winch, and how the Regulator/Rectifier holds up. Mine was toast when I got it. Worse, the diodes had gone and the battery shorted back thru it frying the Alternator coil as well. I have just now gotten everything back in but my carb is now giving me heck This is what happens when you don't use your machine for a year.
So, ANYWAYS, I don't know how much abuse (Constant full 5-amp draw) the Regulator will take, I think you'd be fine as long as the winch isn't used constantly and all the time, but I would winch long shots in bursts since I understand the regulators to NOT be the most robust design, but maybe a member with more JLO experience can step in and answer better.

I don't really plan on using the winch unless I absolutely need it. I was more wondering if I did need to use it, would the engine charge the battery back up. At 5 amps it sure would over time. Thanks for the info. By chance you wouldn't happen to have that service manual in PDF or another format you could either upload or email?

It's quicker for you to just download it from here than for me to upload and E-Mail. (Print out Odd pages, flip paper and print even and you'll have a handy "Book" I don't have the 440 parts manual, only a 295, but this covers about everything
