  • Vanguard teardown

hey guys, i have a 24 vanguard (actually a lawnmower engine) that i need to pull the pto side crank cover off to replace a gasket and crank seal. other than backing off the tension on the rocker arms, is there anything else i need to do before i pop the side cover off? i know the vertical shaft engines are a little different than ours but i figure there is someone in the braintrust here who has torn into one of these

thanks, i was just going to go by memory form the old 5hp's that i used back in my kart racing days... this will probably be a little more accurate than my memories from 20+ years ago

Brian, is that a "normal" looking vanguard or does it look different. I've seen an odd looking engine named vanguard. Just wonder because you said 24 hp.
