  • argo bigfoot poor running carb issue?

Hello, I'm working on an argo bigfoot, 1999 I think, 18hp, it idles great, but starts hiccuping and low on power when you try to get it moving, giving it gas, etc... Seems to me like a high speed jet issue, The carb on this unit is quite different to most carbs I have worked on (used to normal atv carbs, outboards, etc), I pulled the top off the carb, which reveals the float etc, I'm used to removing the lower float bowl to access the float, not removing the top! all looks pretty clean inside, not sure where to start from here... Any advice, or better yet a parts blowup of this style carb, etc..

    Thanks guys!

Does it have a perforated brass tube pressed into the carb top? if so make sure those smallest holes are open, run wire though them. If no tube (year change around then) the tube may be in the main body. Anyway, you should be able to clean everything w/o removing carb. Pull out idle jet and toss the limiter cap.. carb cleaner and compressed air does it for me.

Thanks for the reply Roger, it does have the brass tube, and all the holes do appear to be clear, the carb in general appeared to be really quite clean, no sediment build up in the float bowl to speak of, etc... I will try a fine wire and compressed air and report back!

      Thanks

well I cleaned the carb up and blasted it with compressed air, seem a litte better, but still some what of a stumble to it... Seems better with the idle screw turned counter clockwise against the limiter stop??

        Any thing I'm missing

        thanks

If you havn't had that limiter cap off, take it off and leave it off. Preferably had it off and the mixture needle and spring off while you were squirting cleaner through the rest of the carb. Anyway take the cap off and continue counter clockwise (richer) a little. The fastest idle speed you can obtain will be a little lean, richen it up till the idle drops slightly. At that point, I fine tune till the off idle acceleration stumble is gone. Just rich enough to take most or all of the hesitation out of the transition between idle and main circuits.
