  • K341 no spark

Maybe you guys can shed some light on this for me...I have replaced so far to date; coil, battery, plug wire, condenser, points, wire to points, spark plug, wire harness, and key switch and yet I still have no spark! The enigine turns over freely and gets gas, but nothing at the plug wire. Please help....by the way I already checked the "little" things like gaps and such.

Magnets in flywheel are good? Do you have a wiring diagram to confirm that you don't have a simple mixup in some wiring? Is the stator coil damaged?
Magnets in flywheel should be strong, just don't snap heavy metal parts onto them, shock is bad for magnets. I am not a Kohler expert, you should be able to find one online though. Here you go: http://www.kohlerengines.com/onlinec...1346_c_all.pdf Check the coil with a voltmeter, set to Ohms. If it's high resistance or open, you have a broken wire, if the resistance is too low it's got shorted windings. Not sure what the Ohms should be, and don't think that above manual has it, but some more thorough searching should turn up wiring and test specs too. Good luck

thanks for the tip, I'll chk that out soon as the rain lets up...btw I have the hard copy of the kohler manual. It's sorta helpful to a point, but it assumes the user has a clue and all the right tools.....

I has a similar problem with the K-341. The points bracket was not grounding to the block;check to see if it screwed down tight and cannot move back and forth.

maybe a last resort for you but if nothing else fixes your problem, i would then check to make sure you didn't shear off the flywheel keyway or partially shear it off because if this occurs it knocks the motor out of time since all your timing comes from the flywheel and would then cause there to be no spark. last resort, but thought i would throw it out there so you at least have somewhere to turn if nothing else works. you may also want to clean up the stator a little bit because if its covered with gunk your not gunna be getting any power from it to you points and therefore no spark as well.

A sheared key would still spark just be off time.
Im guessing you are talking no spark like you tested the plug while out and sitting on the head and no spark.
If you check all the above I would run a hot wire straight to coil +. Negative side of coil goes to points. If nothing there your coil bad(maybe even if new) or your points are bad. Make sure you gap them when they are open and not closed.(Dont mean to state obvious but ??? Ive done it., lol) If you got a spark doing that then you have a wiring issue. Keep us updated.

Thanks for all the great advise! I put new terminals on the stator and "re" re-adjusted the points and wah-la!
