  • cranky conquest no fire until keys gets turned back(HELP)!!!!!!!!

issue i'm having. with my machine when i turn her over to start it'll only fire once i have let the key back to the (on) position?as it turns over there isnt any spark, until the key is returned to (on) pos. only then will it show spark, ( i took out the plugs to see).front of the engine plug was wet and the other was dry, same front plug didnt show any spark at all , only spark from the other one when said key motion was applied? do i have a bad coil?on the front plug? shouldnt the plugs be firing all the while shes turning over.think i should order a new coil and ignition switch? any advise would help, thx for the help T.

were you using a spark tester to check it, or grounding the spark plug? if you were using the spark plugs, the first thing i would do is to replace the plugs. also, if you have resistor plugs, make sure the screw on resistor on top of the plug is tight.

If it has spark in "On" but not "Crank" position it sounds like a faulty ignition switch, (Possibly switch replaced with wrong one or improper wiring. (Maybe accessories are turned off during cranking, and it's wired wrong, turning the ignition off during cranking instead? Long shot, but another thought) Other thought would be too low voltage for spark during cranking? I'd pull over by hand in on position and see if both have spark, also unhook the small lead to the solenoid and just make sure it can't touch ground, now have someone hold the key in "start" position (It should not crank with small lead removed from solenoid) and pull-start to see if you still have spark, if you no longer have spark I'd suspect the ignition switch. IF you do still spark, maybe a weak coil that can't produce a spark at the lower voltage? I'm just thinking out loud, I've not had this issue on any sort of engine before, sorry.

I had one do the same thing, but it would actually start sometimes, when the battery was charged enough to spin the motor fast enough to catch when I let off the key. What a head scratcher that was. I replaced the ignition switch and didn't have any more trouble.
