I got a cheap (as in free) JLO Rockwell 340cc single cylinder motor. It ran strong, but the intake and exhaust needed to be rotated 180 degrees. One of the upsides og the JLO is that the whole jug can be rotated 180 degrees. So I pulled the head and rotated it. Question for the experts: does the engine need to be re-timed? I can't see why it would, but the guy who gave it to me said I would need to do so after rotating the jug.

JLO - Rotate jug 180 degrees

The timing will be fine. I would suggest rotating your piston too but is not necessary. It is recommend though as the piston and cylinder would wear to match and excessive wearing will result if not. Maybe you did not sure but?
But timing should be fine.
What you throwing it in?

Timing should be the same, but I'd rotate the piston along with the jug. With the piston in backward as compared to the ports, the ring gap can end up at a port and break the ring. The piston ring stops are always positioned so that the end of the ring is between ports and can't expand into the port opening and catch on the edge. Good luck with it!Stuck in the seventies- not in the swamp.
