  • Max II with 12.5 B&S Vanguard Engine wiring problems.

Finially picked me up my first 6x6 the other day and in the process of putting her back together so i can take it for a ride. the wires for the ignition switch are melted and cut, no wires going to the amp guage. plug on the engine coming from what looks like it coulc be a regulator that goes to nothing.
I can start the engine manually with the pull starter but can not turn it off (have to pinch off the fuel line or hold throttle butterfly closed) cause ignition switch aint hooked up.
Does anyone have a copy of the wiring diagram so i can hook up the electric start, key switch, and the fixins to allow the battery to charge.
have a copy of the engine owners manual and the illustrated parts list but they are no help when it comes to figuring out the wiring.
if a wiring diagram cant be had, maybe someone out there can get me started by letting me know how to wire the engine to so it recharges the battery and will turn off.
    Thank you

i don't have the diagram, but i can give you a brief description. you will need a wire from battery + to the B terminal on the switch. a wire from the S terminal on the switch to the small terminal on the starter solenoid. G terminal on the switch gets a wire straight to ground... frame, engine block, or battery - M terminal on switch gets hooked to the kill wire on the engine (if you don't have one or know where it is, take the flywheel cover off the engine and look for a small black wire coming off a terminal on the back of the ignition coil... if it's not there you'll have to run one and find a way to route it out of the shroud without it getting chafed on anything)
your voltage regulator is a small box mounted to the engine. should have 2 yellow wires (AC current) and 1 red wire (DC positive) the red wire can get hooked straight to battery +, but i prefer to run that wire up to the L terminal on the ignition switch (that way it can't backfeed current to the regulator when the key is off) your + wire for the lights also get hooked to the L terminal on the ignition switch.
hope that helps. you can call me at (704) 902-3734 if you have any questions. Brian

Thank you, Your description is even better than a diagram.
