  • Help w/ sealing an exhaust leak?

On my racer there is a ball and socket joint where the muffler comes into the Y-pipe and there is a slight leak there because of a small dent (that I got straightened out as good as I can) on the one part of the "doughnut". It drips out black oil and it smokes out of there a little, so I was wondering if anyone might know what to use to seal it. Dirtbikes and snowmobiles all have the same set up. Any help is appreciated. Someone suggested I use this, but I can't seem to find any.

does the leak get any better when you get the exhaust up to temp?
you could try a few wraps over the area with header wrap. i can bring some to ohio for you to try if you haven't gotten it fixed up by then

Brian, I have not ran the engine up hot yet, so it might get a little better as it would expand with the heat, but I can't say for sure. I do have some header wrap, which would be a good idea. Thanks for the offer.

I was reading on some snowmobile forums that folks are using copper or red high temp Permatex RVT sealant with some success so I think I'll give that a shot.

Silver solder can be used to build the dent up and sanded back to original shape. It should hold the temp and you can do this with Nap gas on a hand torch. You did say it was a small dent. You will have to remove the pipe to do this.
Life should not be a journey to the grave with the intention of arriving safely in an attractive and well-preserved body, but rather to skid in sideways , cigar in one hand, whiskey in the other, body thoroughly used up, totally worn out and screaming "WOO-HOO, what a ride!!!"
