I'm replacing all the gaskets in a Rotax 503. The PTO cylinder jug just wont come off. Before I do my normal "darn I shouldn't have done that" routine I thought I'd throw it out there to the masters.

Is the base gasket just holding the darn thing down to the case? I forget if they used paper base gaskets as the original material, but I've had to be aggressive and actually tear the paper in two (using the ABSOLUTELY incorrect method of tapping a skinny bladed instrument [read: screwdriver] between the jug and the case) to get the two apart on some engines. I forget if it was the Rotax or not.
Remember don't tap a screwdriver between the case and the jug. You run the risk of damaging the gasket sealing surfaces, and you'll get a leak.
Don't do it.
At any cost.
So that Was a thick rusty butter knife and an impact hammer? I do think it's jus the gasket so I'm going to soak the studs in aero kroil and use a rubber mallot to bump it and see how that goes.
