It (the fun) started when it (the engine) didn't. I pulled the carb and gave it a good cleaning. Reinstalled and got terrible surging (governor) at WOT. Pulled it and made darn sure every thing is real clean.
Here's where I am...
It idles great. I let it warm up and adjust the fuel screw from lean up until I just sense peak (by sound) and then a tiny bit more. Then I twist WOT and (there may be a hesitation) the engine will open up and sounds great. Then about a count of two there is a tiny bit of surge and then (count of three or so) it will die if I keep WOT; if I let off soon enough it will catch itself and come back at idle.
I don't know what I am seeing. I thought (and my experience is) that governor surge means fuel starvation. This makes me wonder if my fuel pump just isn't keeping up with demand. I put the fuel line in a cup and turned the key on and it does trickle pretty slow but I have no idea what the flow rate should be. Anyone?
And then (by smell) I think it is running really rich. Like I said, I haven't really adjusted the fuel screw yet, but golly, burning eyes and nostrils...
I haven't checked the plugs for color. I would like to get it running well first.
Thanks, guys.
