  • kohler CH20 oil coming out of breather

I have a project max IV with a kohler CH20 and I just got the new head gaskets put on. When I fired it up a lot of oil started coming out of the cover for the breather. I looked at the oil pump relief valve and it looks good. Has antone had a similar problem? What is the fix??? I have been working on this rig for about 4 years (when i get time) and I am REALLY close to getting it done. ANY HELP WOULD BE GREATLY APPRECIATED!!!!!! Pricers1@hotmail.com THANKS!!!!

Is the oil above the full line even a little bit? Have you had the motor at any weird angles? If so you can probably run the engine until the oil clears out preferably outside because of how much smoke it will put off.

If you let the motor run for a minute does it start to clear out or continue to pump oil into the breather? If it keeps pumping oil then there may be more to it. You can start by replacing the crankcase breather if it has one. Typically it is what is attached to the other end of the rubber hose that leads to the breather. I don't know on your particular engine though.

Otherwise the other more serious problem would be blowby. That can be caused from a blown head gasket (unlikely in your case) or worn rings, etc.

      hi ,
      kohler blow by
kohler do have a test for this
essentially place a vaumn guage over the crankcase breather hole and vacumn should be present not pressure
reed valve is under the cover the hose connects to
It is best to replace reed and the horse hair filter that degrades over time and exposes reed to to much oil
The surface that the reed seals against should be in very good condition . Kohler castings in this area are terrible

The hose and gasket have been upgraded also
the original gasket leaked it now comes with raised blue sealant
the hose is now red high temperature rubber the old type black will degrade and eventually hole letting unfiltered air into engine . This issue has caused engine failure when engine is operated in a dusty enviroment
