  • Switching over to synthetic

    Just came back from Canadian Tire with everything I need to switch over to synthetic lube in my Frontier 650. I went with their premium brand of full synthetic 10w30 engine oil, full synthetic 75w90 gear lube and full synthetic grease. My next rainy day off will spent in the garage.

    Anybody else switched to all synthetic?

    ive got my argo all geared up with synthetic oil.thats all i run in my truck so i figured the argo would like it as well.

      I use synthetic in all my motors. The 18HP Briggs in my Max2 runs ok with it, but the motor seems to run better with regular oil. Go figure.

        Because Synthetics maintain their viscosity over a much wider range of temp. so when your Dinosaur oil gets hot it was probably getting thinner that specified thus less resistance and maybe that caused you to feel it ran better

          Did the oil changes yesterday, everything went smooth using Ziplock bags for containers in the cramped Argo tub. Also cleaned all my chains. Will be greasing the bearings and lubing back the chains tonight or tomorrow.

            I like the way synthetic viscosity holds up better than conventional multi weight oils, and when drained out, always feels more slippery/better lubricity than dino oil. I use walmart full syn, about $18 for a 5 quart jug.

              Greased all the bearings tonight. Don't have enough Maxima Chain Wax left to do all the chains. I'll grab another can tomorrow. Anybody use anything better for the chains? I found that the idler chains are thougher to stay lubbed. Not sure if its because they spin faster or the heat from the engine but they get dry pretty quick.

                Did the change on my 650, starts alot better in the cold weather. Also put a light weight synthetic in my compressor for ease of start in the cold.
                Ya ain't stuck til the winch cable comes out!!!

                  for the beating that these small engines take (and the abuse i put mine through) synthetic seems like a no brainier!!!!!
                  they dont call me mad because im angry!!!!! im just a little crazy thats all!!!!

                    I use something that doesn't sling off onto the brake rotors.. the other chains I used to use the same, but now choose to use whatever on the axle chains. Used 90 wt out of my truck, etc. They get muddy and I have to wash often, so what's the use of expensive lubes on them..

                      I'm trying a different lube this time. Went to buy a new can of Maxima Chain Wax like I used last time but saw a different Maxima product, Maxima Chain Guard, a synthetic chain lube. As the same benefits as the wax, is non flinging and is also resist heat up to 600 degree. Hopefully that will cure my idler chain drying off issue.
