Ok guys my muffler was red hot last night ,,should it be that hot for a 20H Kohler ,,or is there something wrong with it ,or is that just the normal

Max IV has a high out put heater,custom cab, windshield wiper,suspension seat,new hydraulic brakes ,cargo rack on the front ,,,and I'm loving every minute of this .

I don't think 800 deg after a hard run did anything, but:
"The very best indicator of what is going on inside the combustion chamber is the spark plug. It lives there, knows what is going on every minute that the engine is running, and will not lie. If you are concerned about having high or low EGT readings, examine the spark plugs. If the EGTs are really running high, the spark plug will show signs of overheating, there will be very little carbon buildup on the electrodes, and the carbon that is present will be light in color, tan, light grey, or even white. Overheated spark plugs will not have any remaining sharp edges on either electrode. There may be blisters on the center electrode ceramic insulator. " -

I can tell that you're going to have to give these guys more info before anyone can truly help you out with this one, awesomepossum. Have you changed anything recently? How's the exhaust set up? Is the motor running good, but the exhaust just seems unusually hot, lately? Could it be clogged up? When Whipper put my 30hp Briggs in the SS, he left the stock exhaust/muffler on until he could fab a new exhaust for it. The motor ran good, but the exhaust glowed like Homer Simpson. It couldn't handle it. Now that's probably not the issue, but they all get hot, so it's hard to know how hot is HOT. It may be "normal".Originally posted by awesomepossum66 View Post

what part of the pipe is getting red hot..by the exhaust port or the whole thing..
can you only see it at night ..is it just a dull red or a cherry red...

If you look at most Mufflers on these machines at night after a reasonably hard ride you will find that they all glow a certain amount of red.Comment
