  • Superchief NO SPARK Chap G50B

I have a superchief that lost spark.....ran great then lost spark on one cylinder. After scratching my head with old point ignition that I haven't touched in 15+ years I tested and found what I believed was a bad condensor(I am a Ford tech and point style ignition died years ago!) Found condensors online and replaced both of them. Now there is no spark on either cylinder. Both ignition coils ohm out to what I think is a good coil winding without knowing what spec is. I know people have said on here to rip it out and find a cdi style ignition on ebay and put that in. Well I searched ebay for 3 months now and to no avail have I found anything that will fit this thing on there. So has anyone ran into this issue or does anyone have a cdi style ignition setup for a g50b for sale?

I know what you're going through! I'm not trying to double check your work, but are you sure nothing's touching ground under the flywheel? Things are so tight under there that it's really easy to get something just a little out of place and ground the whole system- done it myself more than once. CDI is lots more reliable and less maintenance, but getting harder to find all the time. I may have a spare set, but I'll have to check. Good luck.

If by chance you do have a spare cdi setup and are willing to sell let me know!!! I will have to pull flywheel again and check everything again. Will soon be to tbe point where I pull the engine so I can see what the heck is going on without bending down. And to think I complain about working on diesels every day....

Update on no spark issue....after taking stator plate back off and rechecking everything with no avail I started dismantling the wiring harness. Come to find out there is 2 yes 2 diodes in the kill circuit near the ignition switch. Good trusty Fluke meter showed me my no spark issue. One bad diode and it will backfeed signal into other coil and kill that spark. One bad diode = no spark on that kill circuit. After looking at diagrams numerous times it made no sense no diodes were shown. Another note.....you can not tie the 2 kill wires together....it wont run....so since its the weekend and I dont feel like running to radio shack for new diodes I ran one kill wire to ignition switch and the other is on a toggle switch for the weekend. Just wanted to give an update on this issue in case someone else runs into it! The Super Chief is back up and running like new again. Btw I also know where there is a 2001 or 2 Argo for sale only has 56 hours on it also comes with snow tracs and soft top! Let me know if anyone interested has 16hp vanguard. $6000 obo
