i just put a questionable 18 kohler in my newer argo to see if it would work out. the engine is known to have onl 85 psi on one cylinder. it has significant blowby venting through the crankcase vent. it has a small amount of white exhaust smoke and was known to consume oil. the coil has inadvertantly left energized overnight. now it runs but has very low power and presumably a weak spark. barely enough power to get around the yard. no positioning of the points seems to cure it. with many strikes against it i wonder what the best next move is and i have no experience with thiws motor. so, for those who do, what do these motors typically need? coil and points or a valve job or rings. parts are expensive so i wonder what the concensus is for the next best purchase. got quoted a coil for almost two hundred dollars
