  • JB Weld to the rescue!

I tore down the carb off the M18 Kohler in my Argo and was suprised to see just how simple they are. Everything looked fine except for the float which was gas logged. No wonder it was running rich. Long story short I tried to re-seal it with my solder gun.

After the fire I decided to switch to plan "B" which was to sand it down to brass, and reseal it with JB Weld. It seems to have worked. I submerged the float overnight with no liquid getting in. I put it all back together and will try to start it tonight.

Update - JB Weld lied! They said it would be OK in the gasoline but after only a day the old girl started running rough so I tore the carb down and found the JB weld had failed and was sluoughing off. I tracked down a new float, installed it and now it runs great. JB Weld with a rare miss.

thats surprising? well gas is pretty destructive. it wasnt quick weld was it? classic jb weld has never let me down, i had an old weed trimmer that the flywheel split into 3 pieces and i jb welded it together, balanced it by shaving the access of with a power sander and it held fine! i cant imagine how much force is needed to keep that thing together at 9000rpms! also many years ago my 82 atc 200 got a hole smashed in the block after i jumped it and landed on a rock, i used jb weld to fix the block and it held for 5 years until i sold the machine! the entire exhaust system on my car is held together with jb weld(where the cat used to be i put a pipe and it leaked, must be a huge amount of heat there but it holds awesome!)
