  • Backfiring when shutting off

I have a 2005 max 4 and after driving around for a while, when I shut it off, I get a pretty sizeable backfire. It's got fresh gas with seafoam and a recent tune up at the beginning of the year. It's a 25 hp koler. Anyone have a fix for this? Thanks

when you shut it off you are suppose to hold it at half throttle if you look on the vin tag next to the key it will tell you

Also let it idle down for awhile don't just run it hard then shut it off if what egoperf said doesn't work. Mine would do that sometimes and lettting it idle for a few seconds helped remedy it.
The feat of sinking a max is a badge of honor.

Well both can work. Some engines need a cool down prior to shutting off. The Kohler seems to like the cool down better than the throttle item. You have to find what works for your engine. Some of the Argo Kohlers will do this also.
Life should not be a journey to the grave with the intention of arriving safely in an attractive and well-preserved body, but rather to skid in sideways , cigar in one hand, whiskey in the other, body thoroughly used up, totally worn out and screaming "WOO-HOO, what a ride!!!"

thanks for the replys guys. no tag next to the key that I see. I would think holding it at half throttle while shutting it down would dump more fuel into it causing a bigger backfire. I'll try both to see which one works for my engine....
