Hi guys, I have a max IV with a Kohler 20 HP Magnum engine. My problem is with the starter. The bendix unit will not spin out and engage the flywheel. I've had the starter to a reputable shop and they said that it is fine. The battery is a Crown Trac 390 and it shows 13.4 volts. The starter will spin fast but not engage. I drove my Jeep over to it and put on jumper cables and the starter works as it should. Do I have the wrong battery or is there a starter problem. The bendix unit is clean and free. The bearings in the starter are fine. I need some ideas please. Thanks.

try cleaning the terminals on the solenoid and the ones at the battery. -

Does the bendix on the starter have two terminals? It sounds like the bendix is not gatting a good ground. Also, that battery can show enough voltage, but what does it show on a (amp) load test? Have the battery load tested at your local shop.It's all just nuts and bolts.Comment

It turned out to be the battery after all. I knew better too. Old age is messing with my mind. Thanks guysComment
