  • tecumsuh breather hose oil leaks

after riding around on 70's model scrambler, oil starts coming out valve cover breather hose leaving a nice cloud behind you when it runs down on to exhaust. This is after hard turns and hilly ground. This is a 16 h.p. tecumsuh engine.I've heard sometimes you need to run low oil level to help keep from slinging oil out. I don't know if that's a good idea.Any ideas?

Have you checked your oil level? Run it at a lower lever like you mentioned about half way between fill and full on the dipstick.

The Tecumseh OH160 and OH180 engines were used in a few different makes and models of 6 wheelers over the years. They're great engines with tons of torque. I've heard that can have some minor blow by, but it isn't anything major. These engines are bulletproof and as long as you maintain them they'll run forever. Do some Google searching on it and do what Mike said and you should be in good shape.
