Whats the length of the output shaft need to be for our style clutches and why on some vertical shaft engines is there feet for what looks like makeing them horizontal are they or can they be made horz or do you have to get a horz engine

The length of the output shaft doesnt matter so much as long as it has enough to support the load. I mean if its an inch shorter then the width of the clutch you just need a inch longer bolt. To short and you dont have much shaft supporting the clutch and the pressure with the belt will probably do some damage. Its best to at least have the portion of the clutch where the belt rides have the shaft under it to support it.

For the motor question you cant tip a vertical to mount horizontal because of the oil flow and maybe event the float in the carb. The mounting feet you are talking about may just be there so they can just cast the same block for both engine models or maybe some applications require something to mount there? I dont know for sure but I do know you cant tip a vertical motor. It is crazy to me that the horizontals are so much more expensive. Most of the applications out there with mowers run the vertical so you would thing the demand would be greater for them and the price would be cheaper for the horizontal if anything. I mean Im sure it dont cost more to build the horizontal so why are they so freaking expensive compared to verticals! I dont get it.
