  • Amphicat starter issue

so ive been looking over the wiring diagrams, and from what i can tell is im missing the starter relay. I've tryed to jump it straight to the starter, and it still wont crank over, it wants to, but it seems really laboured, like my battery is not charged. could this be because of the missing relay? I've gone throo and cleaned all the connections, could the starter itself be hooped? Oh ya its a sachs SA280a

Is the motor on rubber isolator mounts? is there a ground jumper in good condition around the mounts? Try jumpering the ground also...if it is still labored, you either have a motor that turns over too hard (bad motor) or a weak starter. Of course you need to use a known good battery for this, try jumper cables off your car, with it running the voltage is higher and over comes the voltage drop of the cables.

yep the motor is mounted on rubber mounts, and the ground is good. the bendix will engage and starter will spin when not mounted to the engine, but when its on there, it just dosent want to crank that baby over! So what can i do apart from trying to find another starter, Im thinkin that might be hard to find, and the ol rope trick just dosent appeal to me!

So today i got another idea, I've got a 20 hp briggs and stratton v twin that is on my gokart, it dosent have the electric start , but it has a recoil starter. I know that i would have to change the drive clutch, but has anybody put one of these engines in an amphicat before? Too heavy? to much power? I love the 2 strokes, but parts for this engine might be a pain in the A@#%!!

That Briggs would be a lot of power, but it should be OK as long as you don't get super crazy with it.....I would suggest possibly upgrading the axles to 1" rather than the dinky 3/4" axles.
