Hey everyone,do u guys know if a mikuni 34mm has to be horizontally level to work right we did a carb swap on my 72 max II and the carb is facing down a bit from the 400jlo and it runs great at high throttle but when it goes to idle it won't throttle back up and when u shut it down fuel seeps out the front of the carb where the air cleaner goes any info greatly appreciated thanks .....it is weird to me that the angle would be a problem because you load the machine into a truck or drive up a hill climb the carb is fine but someone told me that the floats have to be level to work right I guess ill have to fab something up if this is the issue sorry for the long post its just I would have a ridable machine if this wasn't happening and I'm dyin to go out for a rip

Ok after further research I believe I have to have the carb level and I will need a rubber boot for the carb that is at a 45 degree angle does anyone know where I can find one of these has anyone done a carb swap on a old max here.the reason it needs to be brought up is because the old jlo sits on an angle and the intake manifold is straight off the motor the old walbro carb faced up in the air but also can be at any angle cuz it is not designed like the mikuni I really don't want to go back to the walbro any help would be greatly appreciated99 Argo Conquest.....ERIE icefishing machine

Hey guys I'm back with another issue sorry to keep dragging this out but we can't figure it out we got the 400 jlo running real good with the 34mm on it and it rips I have never ridden anything more fun than this machine. But we r having a problem when the machine is cold it is real tough to start when it is warm all u do is touch the button and it fires right up we have it idling great and great response when we ride it and we pulled the plugs and they have a perfect marshmallow color. The choke plunger is a lil screwed up could that be it or is maybe my gas shut off not working maybe.I was hoping someone could give us some ideas to what would cause this thanks,

Hey Nick,
If your choke plunger is a little screwed up, it's definitely part of the problem. Try squirting a little gas right into the carb or on the air cleaner with a siphon hose or a squirt bottle when it's cold. I think it'll start right up for you. It really sounds like a choke issue. You may have to rig up a better choke, or a primer. Is there a fitting on the carburetor for a primer? If not, it's not that hard to incorporate one.
Try the squirt of gas manually, and see if it doesn't start up easier...

pour some vinager down the choke plunger to free it up AND REMEMBER TO COMPLETELY PULL THE PLUNGER OUT AND CLEAN ALL CORROSION AS IT WILL DRY AND GET RESTUCK somewhere in my domain thier is a 230 quad toilets carb that i forgot to clean all the crap out and it went back to being stuck

Well guys thanks for your help and after a lot of trial and error not knowing much about carbs we got it running good with a lil bit of choke she starts up ice cold we put a new needle and seat in the bottom and it solved all the flooding problems we should have done that from the start but we were told by the guy we got the carb from that it was like new so we ignored it!!! Gonna take it out to the land this weekend for a good ride and see how everything holds up thanks again
