  • Carb flooding problem on JLO 292cc

I just got the ATTEX out this year for some fun in the snow (got about 4" here in the DESERT of So. Cal), and it is having major fuel issues.
I started by removing the fuel tank to clean it (WOW what a job!). I replaced the fuel filter and some of the hoses. I got it started and thought everything was fine until it died after running for a few minutes. I checked for fuel at the carb, and none was present. I figured the pulse pump was bad. Off to my local outdoor power equipment store for a new pump. They had a B&S pump in stock (made by Mikuni) and I bought it and installed it. I got it started and ran it around, and the same problem. This time there was fuel coming out of the overflow tube and into the carb, flooding it out. It has a Mikuni motorcycle type carb on it:

Could the pulse pump be over powering the float needle? I removed the float bowl and checked the floats and the float level. Both seemed good, but I lowered the float level anyway. I installed the carb, and the same thing happened again. I also have another carb that I bought on ebay that was supposed to be for an ATTEX (not sure if for a 4 or 2 stroke). It is a Tillotson diaphragm type:

Is there an adapter made for this carb to fit the JLO engine?
Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks, Rich

Personally, I would stick with the Mikuni. It probably needs a needle and seat replaced. they will corrode over time and not seal properly. also check both floats and make sure you don't have a pinhole in one causing it to fill with fuel and not float. you should be able to get a carb kit for it from Snowmobile Parts you will need to know which size your mikuni is as there are several different kits.
good luck and keep us posted

I have checked the needle and seat with reading glasses and a magnafying glass, no pitting or corrosion of any kind. The plastic floats are air tight (took them out to shake them, nothing but air inside). I still may replace the needle and seat if I can find a new one. Is there a model number stamped somewhere on the carb? If not, how do I measure it to know what size? (I have a metric caliper)

Is there any chance that the "choke" which is actually just an fuel enricher is stuck or not sealing properly?

No chance, as the choke lever has a positive detent and is definately on or off.

Wasn't sure... mine has the cable with very small, weak, tiny, spring inside the housing pushing the plunger down to shut off the choke. I haven't had one with the choke lever.
