  • Argo Avenger Carb Trouble

I have argo avenger that had carb trouble before. I got the carb cleaned before and when I got it back it worked fine for a couple months. I took the carb in to another small eng repair shop and got it cleaned but can't get the argo running this time. Gas is still getting to it from pump. The only way i can see gas getting into the barrel is by me manually pumping the primer and the slightest bit of fuel pumps in. I am extremely unfamiliar with carbs but am trying to do what I can to get this running. Anyone familiar with carbs have any insight? Shouldn't the jet be pumping atleast some gas into the barrel without me having to manually 'prime' it to get any gas? Any help or suggestions is greatly appreciated.

you likely still have crud in the carb.eliminate other possibilities first by installing new fuel filter.damn mechanics are to lazy to clean a carb properly, they think it can be cleaned by spraying some cleaner in it.they have to be stripped down to nothing including the removal of all welsh plugs.sprayed with cleaner, run a wire through all ports then blown out with air.

Truer worda have never been spoken

Carbs are not rocket science, I use a "Torch Tip Cleaner" to clean out all the little ports in the jets.

Apparently they are as a small engine repair shop who works on them every day of their lives can't fix it lol! I'm first admit I don't know crap about them - Thats why when you pay to have something done of course you expect it done right. Just funny because I've also had alignment done on my car twice now by same place who can't get it right either - it's still messed up. I'm gonna do what I can to try to figure it out. Thanks for the advice.

I agree, but don't give these type of guys the honor of calling them "mechanics" they are not. They are what I call "part changers" and they are far too common now days. These are individuals who just change parts until it works, they have no understanding of the "mechanics" of the thing they are troubleshooting.

On a side note, check with your local Yamaha dealer, they use ultrasonic cleaning tanks to clean the intricate carbs on thier 4 stroke sleds and motorcyles, have them run your carb through it, nothing works better. Other dealer brands may have them too, but Yamaha has made it a required service tool in Canada at least.
