  • JLO SNO START starter issue on MAX II

Hi all, I was off my project for about a year and am back at it. I have a BIG MAX II that had a JLO 440 in it. That engine was roached and I bought a number of parts for it but then found a JLO400 complete. I got it mounted in the machine , then the throttle cable snapped. Ordered a new one along with choke cable...
SO, I just finished up the rewiring of the machine and hit the key..THe starter spins, the bendix (or start gear) spins out, and the start gear engages the starter gear on the engine BUT the small gear just spins on the shaft on the starter. THe starter motor and shaft still spin..it is not bound up.

DOes anyone have a suggestion for a rebuilder or rebuild kit for the SNO START starter on the old JLO engines? I am guessing that that one way bearing in the small start gear is worn out, damaged or gunked up. I did spray WD 40 on it, in it etc. to see if that would help...no dice there.

IF no ideas there, what about removing the little snap ring which holds the retainer collar on the starter shaft? I can pull that and see whats what...jsut cannot figure out how to get it off easily.

    Thanks in advance.
