You can look up the specs on the net or we would need to know what kind of motor and hp rating if anyone was to help you.

I don't know "off hand" for sure, but I think it's 4 9/16". All the options I've looked at would require cutting the shaft off a bit

I just put an 18hp briggs in my 6x6. the shaft length was 2-29/32, which is shorter than the clutch. As long as the shaft goes past the centerline of the belt it is fine. A piece of threaded rod or long screw draws the clutch against a washer which fits a radius on the shaft. Hope this helps.
here is a link to the motor i used: http://www.brandnewengines.com/356447-0079.aspx

Why not go a little bigger, since you're doing a replacement? I've got a 27hp Kawi that I'm putting in mine. Too bad you're so far away, I just happen to have a nice 20hp Kawi as a spare.

It would fit, but I don't know the bolt size or patern of the 18hp Kohler. Might have to modify the engine mounting plate. There is also a 29hp DFI Kawi that would be a good choice, but I could not get one when I was looking for an engine. There are LOTS of options out there. I also like the 20hp Honda idea, and the 3 cylinder Chevy Sprint idea is just plain ........Bad Ass
