I was wondering if any body has a wiring diagram for my Hustler it has a kohler 440 and im having troubles it wont fire and i believe the wirers are messed up.
Most snowmobile engines have 2 yellow wires and at least one black wire coming from them. The 2 yellow wires are for charging and go to a rectifier. The black wire is the kill wire. Most of the time, grounding it will kill the engine. The engine should run with no wires connected to it. You can check out the wiring for a JLO and it will probably be close enough to get you going.
I went through the same thing you did. I dont have the digram that i drew up on the pc yet, but i have what you need. Here is the run down. Coming out of the engine you have seven (7) wires. there are 2 black- that is your kill switch. (You have to put a switch on it. At first just dont hook them up to a switch till you get your engine working. You will shut the engine down by putting the two wires together. But once you have gotten the engine working, then wire the switch so that you know that it is the switch and not the engine that is killing it.) Then there is a brown wire. That goes directly to ground. Then you have a yellow wire, and a yellow with a green striped wire. These get spliced together and go to one of the tabs on your rectifier on the one labeled AC (it you have a different rectifier let me know) The green wire and the green with the black stripe get spliced together and put on the other tab on the rectifier labeled AC. That covers where all the wires from the engine go. Now you need to make a wire that runs from the label on the rectifier B+ to the positive side of the battery. You will also need to make a wire that grounds out your rectifier. After that you should have the engine all set. The wires on the inside of my engine where all hooked up, but if you want me to look and see how they hook up just let me know. (i think they are brown and blue) (but i dont remember exactly) If you need any more help let me know. -K
